Should I change the medicine to tighten the stomach lining?

Recently, I had persistent epigastric abdominal pain, so I went to the doctor. After gastroscopy, the doctor diagnosed me with gastritis, bile reflux. In the prescription, there is a prescription for bismuth, take 4 tablets twice a day and explain that it is a drug that has the effect of astringent gastric mucosa. I bought a drug at a pharmacy that didn't have it and was advised to switch to sucralfate which had the same effect. Can I ask if I can use it like that?

Currently, in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease, there is a group of drugs used to tighten the gastric mucosa, the common effect of this group of drugs is to tighten the gastric mucosa, against the reverse diffusion of H ions. , thus causing immediate damage. There are two commonly used drugs, depending on the specific case, which are: sucralfate and colloidal bismuth.

For bismuth: Has astringent effect on the mucosa, preventing the impact of gastric juice on the ulcer. The drug also increases duodenal bicarbonate, stimulates increased production and activity of prostaglandins, increases mucus secretion thereby strengthening the mucosal barrier.

For sucralfate is a drug that can bind to proteins on the inner surface of ulcers for up to 12 hours, preventing H from diffusing back into the ulcer mucosa. In addition, it is also hygroscopic and inactivates pepsin, the bile salts. Sucralfate can also increase endogenous tissue prostaglandins, thereby increasing mucosal resistance. Therefore, sucralfate is also very well used in cases of bile reflux. However, in the composition there are many aluminum salts, so it can cause constipation, reduce absorption of tetracycline, phenytonin... and not for people with severe renal failure.

Thus, in your case, the drug containing bismuth can be replaced with sucralfate. However, it is necessary to consult a doctor about the dosage and duration of use. In the process of taking the drug, if you experience any adverse effects due to the drug, you should notify your doctor for appropriate and timely treatment...
